Zach Abramowitz is Legally Disrupted is Coming to a Conference Near You!
The Much Ballyhooed 2024 World Tour Begins Next Week
So much disruption, so little time. Since we last spoke…
📈I gave in and finally bought shares in NVIDIA.
🎙️AAA CEO & President Bridget McCormack and I released episode 3 of the AAAi podcast with Clearbrief CEO Jackie Schafer https://go.adr.org/aaai-podcasts.html
✈️ But first, let me tell you about your chance to get legally disrupted in person. Starting next week, I’m going to be speaking at five at different conferences over a six week stretch, and I’d love to meet you in person:
April 16-18: London 🇬🇧 Future Lawyer UK: I’ll be in attendance on the 16th (law firm day) and chairing on the 17th (in-house day) and sadly be missing litigation day on the 18th. https://www.futurelawyerweek-uk.com/
April 29-May: 1 Charlotte 🇺🇸 ILTA EVOLVE: I’ll be part of the Keynote Roundtable with Paladin CEO Kristen Sonday and Reveal Chief Growth Officer Cat Casey. https://www.linkedin.com/posts/deniseash_evolve-ilta-weareilta-activity-7183562885120339969-lSUc I’ll also be giving a session on understanding the difference between legacy AI and Large Language Models.
May 6-9: Las Vegas🎰 CLOC Global Institute: I missed CLOC in 2023, but I’m going this year to see what hath AI wrought for legal departments. Catch me walking the exhibit hall, session surfing and rubbing shoulders with the who’s-who of the corporate legal innovation scene (how very exclusive!) I’ll also be hanging out with my buddies from LegalMation at their booth. They’ve got some exciting news coming out, so make sure to visit them if you’re in Vegas. https://events.cloc.org/event/b38d7a48-9af8-4c61-809f-3eb28f208ab3/summary
May 30-31: Boston 🇺🇸 Future Lawyer USA: I’ll be chairing Private Practice Day on the 30th as well as recording an episode of the previously mentioned AAAi podcast on stage with AAA CEO Bridget McCormack. If you haven’t heard Bridget speak, you are in for a real treat. I’m not sure I can name anyone who has her combination of professional accomplishment (former professor of law at the University of Michigan and Chief Justice of the Michigan State Supreme Court) AND passion for AI. She will change how you think about the dispute resolution and, for that matter, the AAA itself. https://www.futurelawyerweek-usa.com/
June 3-4: San Francisco🌁 Legal Innovators California: Third time I’ll be keynoting an event chaired by my good friend Richard Tromans, who is just back from Sabbatical, but my first time at the event in SF. SF remains one of the world's most beautiful cities and the capital of startups and AI. Sorry haters. My keynote is going to focus on investment in startups building AI for legal + I will be doing some other conversational content that I will be able to tell you about more soon. You can see my conversation with Richard here (links to the conference there as well)
If you’re going to be at any of these events or want to meet up with me on this 5 city whirlwind tour, reply to this email or let me know in the comments. If you’re in London or Boston, and couldn’t get budget to attend the conference, I’ve got some free passes (it’s good to be the conference chair!) for Legally Disrupted subscribers only (also good to be ZAILD subscriber). Leave me a comment and I’ll shoot you a top secret code 🤫 that will let you register for the conference.
📈**NOT INVESTMENT ADVICE** Watch out NVIDIA shareholders, I may have just spooked the stock.
I previously wrote in these pages that I had serious FOMO for not buying NVIDIA a year and a half ago. In the last two weeks I bought 11 shares of NVIDIA stock, and the stock is down about 7% since. So why did I do it? In general, I like to put my money where my mouth is, both as a way of doing well with investments but also as a way to make better predictions. If I’m not willing to put some cash behind what I write and predict, then what’s the value of the prediction? To me, betting on NVIDIA is the most straightforward way to capitalize on the following proposition: we are currently experiencing one of the greatest paradigm shifts in history and the growth of AI is going to be exponential. If that’s the case, then it’s hard for me to believe that the market has priced that in because there’s never been anything like this before. The transformer architecture that has become ubiquitous in the wake of “Attention is All You Need” is trained on NVIDIA’s GPUs. So, even though it looks like it’s too late to invest in NVIDIA, it won’t be too late for a while. A bet on NVIDIA is a bet on AI changing everything. **STILL NOT INVESTMENT ADVICE**
🎙️Episode 3 of the AAAi Podcast
In February, I announced a new podcast collaboration with the now twice mentioned Bridget McCormack. In our most recent episode, released two weeks ago, we talked with Clearbrief founder Jackie Schafer about her journey from litigator to startup founder and how GenAI is changing legaltech product roadmaps. My favorite thing about this interview was how Jackie is such a lawyer’s lawyer. Her MVP for Clearbrief was, I kid you not, a law review article. I think that’s part of what has made her so successful — her direct proximity to the problem she’s solving. Was also fascinating watching Bridget, a former Chief Justice, learn about and mentally digest Clearbrief in real time. Here’s a little snippet, but I encourage you to subscribe to the podcast and listen to/watch the whole interview. https://go.adr.org/aaai-podcasts.html
Till next time, stay disrupted my friends. Legally Disrupted.
Hi Zach - I would like to attend the Boston event.
